Bulls Bay
Awendaw, SC
Cape Romain Wildlife Retreat on the Intracoastal — A Nature Lover's Paradise
What Makes This Place Special
Bulls Bay, Firepit Stars, and the Best Fishing Flats You've Never Heard Of
The fishing flats are legendary — reds, trout, flounder, all day long. Pull oysters right off the dock. Light the fire pit, look up, and see stars as bright as anything you've ever seen in your life. This isn't a rental — this is an experience.
About This Property
In the heart of the Cape Romain Wildlife Refuge, nestled within the majestic Francis Marion National Forest, sits a hidden gem like no other. Here, the air is thick with the sounds of nature, and the sunsets paint the sky over the famous bird sanctuary of White Island. From the edge of the dock, you can gaze across Graham Creek, where it winds its way into Bulls Bay, a fishing paradise that calls to anglers from around the world. Whether you're here to kayak the flats, bike the scenic trails, or simply soak in the breathtaking views, this is a place where nature takes center stage and adventure is waiting right outside your door.
Why You Absolutely Should NOT Rent This Place: If bug bites ruin your day, don't bother — this is mosquito central (pack bug spray). There may or may not be banana spiders on the property — actual banana-sized spiders. If seeing a snake or dolphin gives you nightmares, this isn't your spot. We've got both, plus flocks of white egrets, seagulls on the dock, and pelicans flying overhead. Don't even get started on the fire ants. This is a wildlife refuge — if you plan to complain about creatures doing their creature thing, please keep scrolling.
The Space: Set on over 6 acres of pristine waterfront land across two addresses, this private compound offers a nature-immersive experience with all the comforts you need. The Pool House features a king bed, a twin trundle (convertible to king or two doubles), fully stocked kitchen, and 1.5 baths. Adjacent is the Playhouse with ping pong, washer/dryer, full bathroom, and kitchenette. The Top House at 712 adds 3 bedrooms and 2 full baths for larger groups.
Outdoor Adventures Galore: Cool off in the saltwater pool or relax in the hot tub (heated for additional charge). The dock sits right on the Intracoastal with a boat lift and 2008 Sea Hunt Triton 186 with Yamaha 115. Bring your bikes and hit the Palmetto Trail, explore Shell Ring Park with its 4,000-year-old shell ring and massive oaks, or walk to Awendaw Town Park. Bulls Bay offers the best flats fishing in the Southeast.

The Octopus Says...
The fishing right off the dock is unreal. Throw a cast net for shrimp at dusk — they’ll come right to you. Reds love the oyster beds along the shore.
Take the kayak out at sunset. Bulls Bay turns gold and pink and the only sound is the water and the birds. It’s magic.
